Assignment: Future Cinema

Commencement Date: 5th October
Deadline Date: 9th November
Tutor(s): Liam Birtles, Amanda Stephenson, Bob Cotton and Phil Beards

Brief

Future cinema is your chance to explore the ideas of the shared cinematic event that is at the heart of cinema. By examining the experience make an attempt to bring something new to the genre.

Task is to produce a multi-linear, spatial, “cinematic experience”. This narrative will be “installed” in a venue (yet to be finalised).

The narrative will be developed in work shop sessions based on the book “Seven basic plots” by Christopher Booker.

Your first is to explore and to make an attempt to define the scope of the modern cinematic experience. You will be divided into groups of 4 to develop these concepts into a cinematic production.

You will be shown a number of technologies that will allow you to realise your vision, amongst these  will be, an application for mobile device and GPS trigger narratives using Mscape and the well known artists tool MaxMSP.

The scope and scale of the piece will be developed and defined through discussion with your lecturers through tutorials and workshops.

Note: on the 14th of December there will be an opportunity to “install” this narrative in a space in Poole town center, so make it good.
